(Reuters) – William Donaldson, former chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and co-founder of Wall Street investment bank Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, has died, Yale University’s School of Management said on Friday.
Donaldson, who was also dean of the Yale School of Management, died Wednesday, according to the university.
Donaldson, born in 1931, served as chairman of the SEC from 2003 to 2005. In 1959, he co-founded Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.
He was appointed by President George Bush to his role at the SEC and served on President Barack Obama’s original Economic Recovery Advisory Board.
Donaldson is survived by his wife Jane, his children Kim, Matt and Adam, and his three grandsons.
