(Reuters) -Unifor reached a preliminary agreement with General Motors (NYSE:) early Wednesday on wages and job security for workers at its Ingersoll, Ontario, plant, the Canadian union said.
Unifor said details of the agreement will first be released to union members at a ratification meeting on September 22.
The deal comes after the union and the automaker extended a bargaining deadline that was originally set to expire on Tuesday.
Unifor Local 88 had previously said that 97% of its more than 1,300 members supported halting work at the CAMI plant in Ontario, which makes electric vehicles and batteries, if a deal is not reached.
Unifor and GM started contract negotiations last week.
