
Historically, the President gets too much honor for thriving economies and too much guilt for growing economies. That is, presidents can promote policy that is beneficial for the economy, but they are confronted with a significant headwind that prevent strong economic performance. Similarly, presidents can promote policy that is harmful to the economy, but in the steel wind result in strong economic performance.
That said, presidents can certainly make detached mistakes with regard to economic policy. Many economists believe that this is the case with the rate policy of the current administration.
