Houston (Reuters) – Port Freeport on Tuesday said it expected limited ship activities, while Port Houston said that all his public facilities remain closed until Wednesday while Winter Storm Enzo wipes through Texas.
The rare winter storm turned over the American Gulf Coast on Tuesday and brought heavy snow, ice and gusts of wind to a region where times are unusual, while many of the United States remained in a deep freezing.
All eight public facilities of Port Houston will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, the port said on Tuesday, adding that vessel activities may be resumed on Wednesday evening on container terminals, if the conditions allow.
Outgoing ships, with the exception of very large rough carriers (VLCC), began to move in the port of Corpus Christi on Tuesday around noon after closing on Monday evening, a shipping agent showed. Incoming ships, excluding VLCCs, would resume later on Tuesday.
The port of Corpus Christi did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
Some groups of pilots, which help move ships around ports, also stopped the operations on Monday as offshore conditions deteriorated.
Nevertheless, the impact of the storm on oil and gas activities was limited on Tuesday in Texas, with minimal interruptions in gas flows, little power failure and many petrol supplies at the pump, because many roads and highways remained closed.
