(Reuters) – Paramount Global-owned CBS Sports will produce the two National Football League (NFL) games that will air on Netflix (NASDAQ:) on Christmas Day this year, the video streaming platform said on Friday.
CBS has the over-the-air television rights to the competing teams’ cities, while NFL+, the league’s livestreaming service, will show the games on mobile devices in the United States.
In May this year, the company had announced that it would stream at least one game on Christmas Day in 2025 and 2026 as part of its exclusive three-season deal with the NFL.
The NFL deal marks the first time Netflix has licensed the rights to one of the world’s biggest sports leagues and also the first live football streaming on the platform.
NFL is the most watched sports league in the US. This year’s Super Bowl game between Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers attracted a record 123.7 million American viewers.
